As consumer dependency on mobile technology continues to increase, the need for mobile web and app development will continue to rise as well.
Bank of America recently released its second annual Trends in Consumer Mobility Report, which explores the mobile behaviors and trends among adult consumers across the country. This year’s results demonstrated the notable impact that mobile devices have on our everyday lives.
According to the report, nearly 38 percent of U.S. adult consumers never disconnect from their smartphone. The desire for connectivity is so great that nearly 71 percent of respondents reported sleeping with their smartphones and 23 percent reported to having fallen asleep with their phone in their hand.
In examining everyday usage, the report found 89 percent of consumers check their mobile devices at least several times a day and more than 36 percent report that they constantly check their devices. Consumers have become so dependent on mobile technology that if they were asked to refrain from mobile usage, 44 percent of consumers said they couldn’t last 24 hours. For some consumers, their smartphone is the first thing they reach for in the morning, beating out coffee, a toothbrush and even their significant other.
While society has become more dependent on mobile technology, 75 percent of respondents said they still have mobile boundaries. Consumers cited movie theaters (31 percent), religious institutions (18 percent) and restaurants (13 percent) as the most annoying places people use their smartphones. They believe some places are just not appropriate for mobile phone use.
All of these findings and trends show that society relies heavily on mobile technology. Consumers use their smartphones as a way to stay better connected to what’s going on in the world around them.
